This ended up being better than I was thinking, and that is to say I ended up liking more than I anticipated. You get 30 unique little dishes and there were only about 3 that I disliked. All of the other flavors I appreciated in some way. But that was the surprise, the actual experience was expected and the real reason why I came and it was exactly what I wanted.

Fantastic set lunch with over 33 pieces of delicately prepared items, in a restaurant that is over a century old. Great value for money and ambience. I first stumbled upon this place over a year ago and was amazed by the food and tea. Both the service and the taste was consistent on this second visit. We will keep coming back!

Wonderful kaiseki dining experience by the river! The food was extremely fresh and oiishi! The menu is seasonal, and if you do not have a reservation, plan to arrive before its opening hours in order to secure a seat.

We have been staying three weeks in a machiya in Kyoto. Today we visited Uji, and entered this restaurant beside the river for lunch. We had no reservation but the hostess and all the staff were utterly gracious to us. They accommodated my being a pescatarian also. We ate upstairs in a small room facing a view of trees. All of the food served was delicate and delicious. There was such a variety of tastes. Some tiny items were intriguingly mysterious to us, and we might have asked with google translate but didn’t wish to bother the other two people dining in the room. It was the best food we have had so far on our trip, and we highly recommend this restaurant and thank all of the staff for being inviting and kind.

Love this kyoto bento! Every single piece is bitesize and very exquisite! Delicious too!! Bento is made up of Kyoto seasonal vegetables. Dessert is super yummy!!!

Better to reserve early. They accept credit-card online payment. We were lucky enough to have the window seat which has a fantastic view of the Uji river. You do need to take off your shoes as the restaurant is in traditional Japanese style. The food itself is well worth the price. Very cute delicate bento box that made of 30 kinds of ingredients with additional rice balls (they’re all cold food, by cold I mean room temperature), miso soup, and strawberry matcha cheesecake. The menu is seasonal. The portion is larger than it appears to be on the pictures, and is too much for my mother and I to finish all of them.

This is hands down the BEST restaurant in Uji, and our favorite of all of our Osaka-Kyoto trip. The food is incredible, only specialties from Kyoto and Uji. The waitresses are very very nice and use translating apps to explain the dishes. The rooms on the 2nd floor have a magnificient view of the river. We felt like we were transported back in time in one of the most relaxing atmospheres ever. The owner (I guess ?) is absolutely beautiful and her waitresses all show perfect japanese etiquette and grace. We decided we will come back to Uji only to eat at this delicious gem of a restaurant. Thank you very much for the experience, we hope we can buy your delicious Uji matcha salt one day !!!
